EMDR Therapy: Healing Beyond Talk

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, trauma-informed therapy that helps your brain process distressing memories and experiences that haven’t fully healed on their own. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR supports your nervous system in letting go of old, stuck emotional responses and beliefs so you can feel safer, more regulated, and freer in daily life.

  • When certain events or experiences remain unprocessed by the brain, they can continue to show up as:

    • intrusive memories

    • anxiety or startle responses

    • avoidance

    • feeling “stuck” in old patterns

EMDR uses gentle bilateral stimulation — such as guided eye movements or tapping — while you focus briefly on a targeted memory or experience. This helps your brain reprocess that experience, reducing the intensity of emotions and shifting the way memories are stored and experienced, without requiring you to relive every detail endlessly.

  • EMDR has been extensively researched and shown to be effective for healing stress and trauma, including:

    • PTSD and trauma-linked symptoms

    • anxiety and panic

    • depression and mood patterns

    • response to overwhelming experiences

    • chronic pain or patterned distress
It is widely recognized by leading mental health organizations as a valuable option for trauma recovery.

  • Healing with EMDR is collaborative:

    • We start with safety, stabilization, and resource building

    • You remain in control throughout the process

    • We only proceed when you feel grounded and supported

    • Sessions typically feel different than standard talk therapy — focused on what your nervous system holds, not just your words

Many clients notice shifts in how they respond to triggers and internal experiences — with more calm, clarity, and self-trust.

  • EMDR is appropriate for adults and professionals who:

    • want to move past old patterns that feel emotionally heavy or automatic

    • have experienced overwhelming events or loss

    • feel anxious, stuck, or disconnected from their sense of safety

    • want deeper healing beyond conversation alone

No prior therapy experience is required. You are welcome to explore at your own pace.

Why Trauma-Informed Care Matters

Trauma is stored in the body and nervous system, not just in memories. When experiences overwhelm our capacity to cope, the nervous system can remain on high alert long after the danger has passed. EMDR supports the brain’s natural healing process by working with the nervous system’s ability to regulate, adapt, and restore balance. Rather than forcing change, EMDR allows healing to unfold in a way that is paced, intentional, and respectful of your lived experience.

In my work, trauma-informed care means prioritizing safety, consent, and choice at every step. You remain in control of the process, and we move at a pace that feels manageable for your system. My role is to support your healing without pushing, re-traumatizing, or overwhelming you.

I became EMDR-Certified through the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) in the fundamental principles of EMDR therapy, and I have received specialized training in Attachment-Focused EMDR (AF-EMDR) developed by Dr. Laurel Parnell. This approach places particular emphasis on early relationships, nervous system safety, and strengthening internal resources especially for clients whose trauma is relational, developmental, or complex in nature.

Your story matters, and I am committed to offering a therapeutic space that feels steady, collaborative, and supportive as you move toward greater integration and relief.

If you have questions about EMDR, AF-EMDR, or my training, you are always welcome to reach out. Your journey toward healing is important to me, and I am here to offer guidance and support each step of the way.
